English:
1. Please introduce your band Ratzinger to my readers.
Hello Susy, sure! RATZINGER is a band that was born un 2005 when I came back to Chile after I lived in Stockholm, Sweden, due of work reasons. What we recorded first it was an EP containing 3 songs, out of those songs the one that reached the level we wanted was “Set Me Free”, same song that later on we made a music video in Auschwitz “The German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp (1940-1945)”. In 2007 we recorded an album with the name of “STATE ENEMY” that had great reviews among the especialized media (Rolling Stone, Metal.de, Rock.Ru, Hardrockers.Pl, etc). This album gave us te opportunity to tour Europe and perform in cities such as Berlin, Hamburgo, Katowice, Wroclaw, etc., recently we released a second album called “2012”, that talks about the MAYA concept and civilization, that is pretty common todays days, we had the release party of the album when we supported the show of HALFORD in Chile, we also have shared stage with another bands such as SKID ROW, KORPLIKANNI and roght now we are set to support SEBASTIAN BACH in Chile soon.
2. ¿What does the name Ratzinger stand for?
For us RATZINGER is equals a bigger concept than Catholic Church and we make fun of the current PAPA. We believe that “The Catholic Enterprise” has failed to the world in many aspects, so when Joseph Ratzinger it was elected as PAPA and we heard him saying about “He was going to fight against Rock music, because it was bad influence for the young people”, we told ourselves “He need to clan up his house first.. with all the pedophiles priest he has in it first”. In a country with all population is blond, the one eye man is the king.

3. You started your band way back in 2005. I think it wasn`t easy to create a band especially in Chile these days was it? Now it is 2012 and you already played with names like SKID ROW, HALFORD, KORPLIKANNI, to name a few.
Honestly I rather to see the half glass full and tell you that we had accomplished, we are one of the few Chilean bands that has going out and tour in Europe for example and also shared stage with big name bands, like you were saying before, we have 2 albums out and we are pretty proud of them and also a website super updated. Now if if talk about the empty half of that glass we can say that many time I feel disappointed by the people in Chile, they have a name of the kind of people I am talking about “Chaquetero” which means “envious person”, people that have the only purpose in life to put down other people work, and behind the internet and ability of hide their identities, they spend their times talking about our precious work like it was a piece of shit work, where is the opposite of the case, we know and handle that fact pretty well and we have faith and hope that we are going to place ourselves over that kind of people once in for all, reaching our destiny.
4. You just released your album simply named "2012". Could you please tell my readers what 2012 is all about? And who is the main songwriter in RATZINGER?
The concept of the album 2012 is “The end of the MAYAN calendar”, which is the end of its cycle on December 21 of 2012, where the Mayans predicted the beginning of a new era. We believe that is not the end of the world, like Hollywood tried to make us think... but the end of something that has been for years as a paradigms of life, where we will reach a new level of conscience and personally believe that is what we are living right now and all the warnings about the enviroment. About how the 2 albums got written, well I started the ideas of each song and their melodies, but they get the shape you know them when we all got together in the rehearsal room, where each member adds their own flavor to the mix as a result of the whole band.
5. One song ist called "Zeitgeist" ¿How did you got the idea to name it like this? ¿Who inspired you to chose a german name for it?

This song was inspired by the Great documental by the same name, though, I know pretty well its significance of the word and all, because my wife is German, the concept is centered 100% on the documental, which it gets deeper into the Jesus Christ crucifixion and all the fallacies that surround the theme through the human history.
6. Back in 2007 you already played two shows in Germany one in Hamburg and one in Berlin. What about the reaction of the german crowd?

I have to tell you that the German crowd is pretty energetic, totally different of what the rest of the world says, and always are named like cold and boring... our experience was pretty nice and most of the people was very friendly, they showed us interest in get to know our music from South America, without us going to them first. They supported us a lot during the shows and they bought a lot of our Merchandise, we still have direct contact with bands and we are friends. My father in law and brother in law are Germans, believe me when I say, “I know their humor” and how much beer they actually drink during the day! hahaha...
7. You have another show coming in Chile in april. How do you prepare for your shows are there any patterns you are following ... or do you prepare differently for each show you play?
It will al depend on the show for HALFORD's show for example, we decided to perform our hard setlist, per say... fast and brutal thrash.. but our next show SEBASTIAN BACH, it will change a bit, I think we will perform a little more commercial set this time, with songs like “Nuclear Day”, “Zeitgeist”, “Time Wave Zero”, etc., and the whole preparation is with full schedule of rehearsals and we are going to bring to the stageon the song “Make-Make” a Tribal Rapa Nui dance performers, very similar of what you can see on the musical video of the song.

8. What is RATZINGER doing at the moment?
Currently we are writing the demos for out next album, we have so far 10 tracks and we are looking for a good concept to follow on this new chapter. We love the idea of “Conceptual albums”, the first album it was focused on the Twin towers of New York and the second album based on the Mayan calendar as we mentioned before, so we would like this new album to have something interesting and strong enough to be the whole album.

9. What are the bands inspired you to play music?
While I am responding this interview I am litening to STRAPPIMG YOUNG LAD, the last 3 concert I went to I saw DOWN, SOULFLY and MACHINE HEAD, so I would say that this mini list of bands has giving me the inspiration I needed but also I am listening a lot of new music and their productions, such bands as CALAVERA CONSPIRACY, MESHUGGAH. I think what inspire me more is to assist to live shows and see them perform, right now Santiago of Chile is a great place to assist to mega shows.... when I come back home I got some new ideas in my head for riffs and rhythms.

10. Last but not least the floor is yours. Leave a final message for my readers:
OK, well I'd like to say that in this globalized world exists tons of materials, but the one who knows the name of the beast, would easily recognize RATZINGER! Hell Yeahh!! and Thank you for the interview.

Español:

Hell Yeahh!!!
